History
•Confucianism, is a major school of thought in traditional China, is a philosophy based on the idea of Chinese philosopher, Confucius.
•K'ung Fu Tzu (commonly pronounced Confucius in English) (Master Kong) lived from 551-479 BCE in the ancient state of Lu (modern day Shantung Province) when small city-states filled the Yellow River basin and owed their allegiance to the House of Zhou.
•He lived during the Zhou dynasty, an era known for its moral laxity. By the time of Confucius, there was violence between these cities.
•Confucius lived in a chaotic time, when the warring states fought each other fiercely and social disintegration was a major problem.
•There was a great need for stability and peace.
•For Confucius, the root lies in the decline of traditional values and norms and Confucianism advocated its restoration.
